Winter "Sticks" Class Offerings:

Mixed Age Classes

Nine weekly, 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic chants, movement, and instrument play. Infants up to age five attend classes together with a parent or caregiver. All our activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences. The curriculum is specifically designed for young children and encourages lots of parent/caregiver participation, regardless of musical ability. A CD and a beautifully illustrated songbook are included with registration. Plus, you can now download the Music Together® App, and also have access to "Family Music Zone" on the MTLLC website, where you will be able to download the music, as well as access other content from the "Sticks" collection!

Generations Classes

Curriculum and activities are the same as in mixed-age classes, but classes are held in a senior residential facility. "Grandmas" and Grandpas" join our music circle and participate with all the families in making musical connections, and share in the joy of accepting and including many generations. Generations classes are truly special, and provide people of all ages with the opportunity to build community through music.

Why Music Together?

The Music Together program was first implemented in 1987 by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, New Jersey, with a focus on understanding how children develop musically. The program is based on the center's research findings, which show the following:

I. All children are musical.

II. All children can achieve basic music competence (defined as the ability to sing in tune with accurate rhythm).

III. The participation and modeling of parents and other primary caregivers, regardless of their musical ability, is essential to a child's musical growth.

IV. Young children’s musical growth occurs best in a playful, musically rich, and developmentally appropriate setting, free of direct instruction and performance pressure, where learning activities are accessible, interesting, and fun for both children and adults.

Developed by Kenneth K. Guilmartin and coauthor Lili Levinowitz, PhD, the songs in each Music Together collection are carefully selected and arranged to facilitate children's breadth and quality of experience.

Today, Music Together offers classes around the world-- we invite you to join our community as part of Joyful Jumping Music Together, and discover the joy of making music together!
